18th day of December marks the anniversary of the issuance of the Mandamus order and with this, for the first time in nine years, the Manila Bay day was celebrated jointly by all the stakeholders and partner agencies. This was seen as a measure of the MBCO to increase awareness of stakeholders of the updated OPMBCS and strengthen camaraderie and continuous cooperation among the mandamus agencies.
Senator Cynthia A. Villar herself graced the event with her inspirational speech wherein she reckoned the importance of protecting the environment, most especially the bay. As the major highlight of the celebration, the Manila Bay Site Management Offices in Regions III, IV-A and the NCR awarded partner LGUs who have been significantly contributing in the attainment of the OPMBCS targets. For NCR, the cities of Pasay, San Juan, and Valenzuela were awarded. Region IV-A, on the other hand, has recognized the LGUs of Antipolo City, Tagaytay City, Calamba City, Carmona, Teresa, and Kalayaan. San Jose City in Nueva Ecija, San Jose Del Monte City in Bulacan, Balanga City in Bataan, Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Rafael and Plaridel were the awarded in Region III.
The heads of mandamus agencies have expressed their solidarity to the celebration through video messages that were shown during the celebration. The whole festivity ended with all the attendees singing the song ‘Heal the World’ in commemoration of the synergy, and the continuous and purposeful fight in rehabilitating the bay.
